OCHI DAY CELEBRATIONS

You will know from
previous editions of Paxos News that we have always enjoyed the Ochi
Day celebrations. Ochi (or No) Day is on 28 October and is a
national holiday held to celebrate Greece’s rejection in October
1940 of the Italian ultimatum to surrender. However, this year we
felt much more part of the whole event as we visited Natasha’s
school where she was involved in poetry readings on the Friday and
were then in the church for the service prior to the processions on
the Saturday, Ochi Day itself. We have not attended the church
service before and we also then went on the procession with Natasha,
who at three was still a bit young to go on her own. So we really
were very much part of the event this time and really enjoyed it!
